Tampere — the factory that turned Plevna into an industrial address
The Plevna building at Finlayson connects Pleven’s name with Tampere’s industrial history — and with an evening in 1882 when electric lamps lit up its weaving hall.

ATLAS PLEVNA · COORDINATES OF MEMORY
Geography says these places are far apart. Cultural memory, however, shows that they already share a history. Our mission is to transform this from a historical curiosity into a living modern partnership.
From trace to connection. From a name on a map to a living network of people.
PLEVEN / PLEVNAONE NAME · MANY STORIES OF THEIR OWN
The name of Plevna has developed a life of its own across the world: in Belfast, “Plevna Park” preserves the memory of a vanished street, while in London, “Plevna Road” remains an everyday address alongside “Varna Road” and “Belgrade Road”, forming a small urban archive. In industrial Leeds, a cluster of streets near the steelworks became known simply as “the Plevnas”. Across the Atlantic, the name lives on in settlements such as Plevna, Montana and Plevna, Ontario, where it remains part of a living local community. In Romania, the name is woven into everyday urban geography through Bucharest and Timișoara, while in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, “Plevnenska Street” opens a contemporary conversation about solidarity and cultural resilience.
This section is a bridge to people and communities that already carry a fragment of Pleven’s name, even where that connection has largely faded from living memory.
PLEVNA ROAD · HAMPTON
Imagine walking down a street in London. Houses, gardens, people coming home from work. Then you look at the street sign: Plevna Road.
For someone who lives there, it is their home address. For us, it is the name of a Bulgarian city.
The local archive holds old maps, documents and a photograph from 1908 of a family in their home’s garden. Today, these traces could begin a new encounter between the people of this street and the people of Pleven.
A street sign becomes a conversation. From that conversation, a shared story can grow.

03 / THE NAME BELONGS TO THEM TOO
Plevna is no longer only a historical name for Pleven. It also belongs to the people who live on these streets, in these neighbourhoods and settlements. Atlas Plevna does not seek to “reclaim” the name. It seeks to understand what happened to it — and to invite those who carry it today to write the next chapter together.
04 / THE NEXT COORDINATE
Atlas Plevna is an open map. If you know a street, building, settlement, archival image or local story connected with the name Pleven / Plevna, send us the trace. The next coordinate may come from you.
Inclusion in the Atlas does not by itself imply a confirmed partnership. Where a verifiable written reply exists — as with Richmond/Hampton — it is identified separately and is not presented as a contracted production or confirmed funding.
